Blue 8 Vegas Gold 3
Clint and team Blue bounced back in a big way by picking an 8-3 win over Vegas Gold last night. A week ago around this time, Clint was probably ordering a new stick following a lopsided loss to team Black. Team Black has made a habit of frustrating opposing goalies and players this season but Clint said the lopsided loss gave him the opportunity to buy a new stick. Anthony Schuckers is out indefinitely which opened up the door for Zach Foradori to fill in for them. While he only scored one goal, his presence made a big difference. Zach Smith led the way in the early part of the game with 3 goals while Cody Haag would go on to score 2 third period goals to stretch a 5-1 lead to a 7-1 lead. Jaron Buffone added a 3rd period goal as well. He had a goal earlier in the game as well. Coltyn and Cory each scored in the 3rd period for Vegas Gold but the team fell victim to good goal tending from Clint. The win gives them 6 points on the season with a chance to get up to 2nd in the standings with 2 weeks left. 2nd seed will play 5th seed in the first week of the playoffs.
White 10 Green 5
White got back on track as well following a loss to Vegas Gold last week. Andy led the way offensively. Ben Rossi scored a goal early in the game but had to leave soon after due to a problem with one of his skates. Jason Stamler took his place. Adam and Braxton also filled in for a missing John Matchock and Josh Clontz and each contributed to the 10 goal output. As the case with Clint in the game mentioned above, Bubba had a better game in net for White last night. Team Green didn’t score its first goal until early in the 2nd period when he couldn’t quite gain possession of the ball opening up the door for Brian to tap in the first goal of the game for Green to get them to within 3 goals. White was ahead pretty comfortably throughout after answering with the next 3 goals to go up 7-1. Larry and Zach Foradori filled in for Green and each added a goal to keep Green within striking distance in the 3rd period. Foradori’s goal was pretty impressive after faking out both Jason Stamler (who was filling in for Rossi) and Bubba. Unfortunately, it only counted for one goal. Dave Jewell and Brian would each score 3rd period goals for Green but all of Andy’s scoring kept green from having any chance of getting back in the game. White and Vegas Gold each have 8 points with 2 weeks left in the season. Getting first or second seed appears like it will be a big advantage in the first week of the playoffs.
Black 13 Orange 1
Black made short work of orange in this game. Orange was missing 3 players (Waddell, Reed, Gray) and the 4 players who did play for them last night (Larry, Stamler, Andy, Brian) just got done playing a lot of minutes in the game before that. Combine that with going up against the best team and fastest team in the league ended up being too much to take on for Orange. Noah scored just seconds into the game and the goals kept coming. Noah was either scoring or setting guys up throughout the first period. Braxton and Troy Gaydosh added to the scoring while Joe Roush scored a nice goal early in the 2nd period to put Orange out of their misery. Orange picked up Jake and Dave Jewell early in the 2nd period to try to cut into the 10 goal deficit but even they couldn’t slow team black down long enough to try to extend the game. Joe Roush’s goal came with around 10 minutes to go in the 2nd period which clinched the mercy rule victory. Orange goalie Tony Conforto never had a chance from the start but did gain some valuable time in net when the teams kept playing after the mercy rule. Black appears to be on track for the 1st seed when the playoffs go to begin. Orange could still get 5th and avoid another matchup with Black in the first week of the playoffs.
