Black 6 Vegas Gold 3
With the good goal tending in this game from Adam and Kaden, there isn’t all that much to write about. Black leapfrogged Vegas Gold in the standings by picking up the 6-3 win last night. It was Vegas Gold’s first loss of the season. Black’s only loss came in overtime to white. Noah and Troy Gaydosh led the way in goals for black as they slowly pulled away in this game by the end of the 2nd period. Zach Foradori filled in for Laken and added a goal while Joe Roush added a goal as well. Vegas Gold had many opportunities to score throughout the game when it was still within striking distance, but Adam refused to give them any hope. Black was ahead 6-0 by the end of the 2nd period before vegas gold scored 3 times in the 3rd period to cut the loss in half. Bob finally scored for Vegas Gold in the 3rd period followed by a goal from Cory. Coltyn would go on to score the final goal of the game as time expired. A little more recap of the game can be seen with Joe Roush’s interview below:
White 9 Orange 6
White got back on track last night picking up a 9-6 win over orange last night. With Jake, Andy, Ben Rossi, Josh Clontz and Zach Foradori, you always have a chance to win a game in any league, let alone a draft league, but their biggest difference maker may have been the guy in net last night. Bubba appeared to be dialed in most of the night. The only guy on orange who seemed to be able to get shots past him was Alex Waddell. Ben Rossi scored less than a minute into the game but both goalies, Tony and Bubba, got into a pretty good groove and the game remained 1-0 for a while. Ben Rossi would go on to score again to make it 2-0 and Alex Waddell would go on to score twice late in the first period to even the score at 2 before Ben Rossi scored again to put white ahead 3-2 at the end of the first period. White was ahead throughout the game but Orange never went away. Noah filled in for Zac Gray but Alex Waddell was the only one who really had answers for Bubba in net. Noah set Rob Reed up for a 2nd period goal to close the gap to 6-4 but they never got any closer than 2 goals. Andy went on to score 4 times in the 2nd and 3rd period to keep white ahead while Josh Clontz added a goal along the way.
Green 8 Blue 6
Green went 3 weeks without a win giving up a league high 42 goals in the process. Maybe they just needed a 10 year old to give them a spark of life. Matt Jewell scored two, 3rd period goals, including an empty netter to help Green pick up its first win of the season. Jay Edmiston played his first game of the season as well and contributed 4 goals in the game. Matt Jewell’s first goal came on a nice pass from Edmiston. Team Blue went ahead 2-0 at the end of the first period thanks to goals from Zach Smith and Jaron Buffone. Adam filled in for Clint and made several first period saves to keep blue ahead for the first half of the game. Dave Jewell finally got green on the board early in the 2nd period and later set Jay Edmiston up for another to tie the game at 2. Edmiston scored 2 more times in the 2nd period on set ups from Brian Anderson. He also scored a 3rd period goal which Brian was trying to pass to Tyler Waltman in front of the net but it somehow ended up in Edmiston’s stick. Cody Haag set Zach Smith up for a late 2nd period goal to tie the game at 4 but that’s when Edmiston and Matt Jewell came in handy for green. Anthony Schuckers and Zach Smith scored 3rd period goals for Blue but they were outweighed by Matt Jewell’s 2 late 3rd period goals. Green played its most complete game of the season so far and while not mentioned above, Cody Schaeffer played a big part in the win. It was his best game in net so far as he made more of the routine saves and also made his share of good saves in the 3rd period to keep green in a position to win the game. On the other side, Adam was playing his 2nd game of the night and looks to be dialed in going into the XHL season. A lot of the goals green scored last night came on good set ups.
Joe Roush (Black)
1. 6-3 win last night. How would you describe the overall team effort and performance last night? Effort through the first two periods were great, we controlled the flow of the game for the most part. However, the third period really started to heavily favor the opponent.
2. You contributed in the win. Do you think you have adjusted to all the speed that goes with this team? For the most part yes, our best strength is getting the ball out of our zone quick and putting shots on the opposing goalie.
3. Adam was on his game last night. Do you think he was the difference maker for you guys? I felt we did pretty good keeping quality shots off Adam for the first two periods. Not to mention going into the third with a 6-0 lead, I imagine Adam was feeling pretty comfortable. It's also nice to have someone in your own net that'll make the routine saves look easy.
4. How do you think you guys did at trying to contain Bob and Cory? I think we did well containing them making them take off angle shots and not giving them entirely too much space to work with. I know one of their goals came off of a redirection bounce off of my skate and the other one was a lot of bouncing in front of the net that eventually found one of their sticks. So all in all, good effort.
5. Its been a weird NFL season so far. What team do you think has been the biggest surprise and the biggest disappointment? For the biggest surprise, despite their performance full of turnovers this past week, would be the Colts. Honorable mention going to the Patriots. As far as being a disappointment, most teams that come to mind have been pretty crippled with injuries to their star players. So with that, I'm going with the Steelers. There was a lot of talk going into the season of how much money was invested on the defensive side of the ball and how dominant they would be. And despite the 6 takeaway performance this past Sunday, they've struggled at times to stop a simple nosebleed. But I have been happy to watch the offense be mostly competent for the first time in several years.
Jay Edmiston (Green)
1. 8-6 win last night. How would you describe the overall team effort? Got off to a bit of a slow start, which was to be expected as we adjusted to playing together. I think we played much stronger as the game went on, which helped get us the win.
2. What was it like trying to adjust from ice hockey back to roller hockey? It’s interesting. There’s things you can do in one that you can’t do in the other and vise versa. There’s a big difference between an ice puck and a roller ball so I’m still trying to lock my shot back in, but that’s probably been the biggest struggle. We’re coming along though.
3. The little guy (Matt Jewell) had 2 important goals at the end. What did you observe from his play throughout the game? He’s a water bug out there, just flying around. He kept pressuring the puck and got rewarded with a couple huge goals late. It was a lot of fun playing out there with him.
4. How do you think yourself and the rest of the team, along with the goalie, played last night? Solid team effort, we were moving the puck, putting pressure on them, and the tendy made some clutch saves. I think we definitely have something to build on after last night.
5. You weren’t able to play too much in Brockway this summer, but you were a part of the 4th of July championship team for the 2nd year in a row. What was it like to be a part of that team again? One of my favorite events of the year! I’m just thankful that GM of the Year Bob Anderson has had enough faith in me to draft me the last two years. We’ve had a great group each year so it’s fun no matter what. But winning doesn’t hurt either.
Josh Clontz (White)
1.9-6 win over orange last night. What can you say about the overall team effort in the win? I think the effort was huge all the way around, aside from our supposed sub. We had a short bench, and that bum Foradori was supposed to help us out... he played like two lazy shifts and the left early. BUM!!!!
2. You have only played 2 games so far, but whats it been like playing alongside Andy, Rossi and Jake? Like you said its only been two games, but I think we have played really well togeather. Hopefully those guys can keep up with me throughout the rest of the season.
3. Last nights game was pretty close throughout. What do you think made the difference for you guys? I thought it was pretty obvious that when Foradori left we took control of that game.
4. Bubba may have had his best game in net last night. What did you observe from his play? All Foradori jokes aside, Bubba was the difference maker last night, he came up huge for us several times.
5. It may have felt like a very long summer of hockey in Brockway. What good and bad can you take from the SRHL season? The good...we had a long summer of hockey in Brockway! Its great to have the roller drome when the weather turns bad, but I really love the bigger court, the boards and the puck. We had good numbers in all the leagues, the non comp is growing, the fall computer draft league is one of my favorites, and the competitive league went well. I would say the only down sides are working around the weather, and the extra intensity that some players bring during competitive league playoffs. I can't change the weather, but I think we have some plans to settle players down a bit during next seasons playoffs.
Fred Terwilliger (Vegas Gold)
1. 6-3 loss to Noah and company last night. How would you describe the overall team effort and performance? We (I) left our goalie hanging out to dry a few times. Bouncing back from a little illness left me not my 100% amd was out of position several times. Team effort was decent by the time the 3rd period rolled around... but it was just a little too late.
2. What was your impression of the opposing team after going up against them last night? Fast. They have a good awareness of where their teammates are on the court. We'll strategies a little more before our next match-up.
3. SRHL ended in tough fashion this summer. How would you describe the season overall for yourself and your team? The SRHL season always seems long even when it isn't that long. Making it to the finals is nothing to be ashamed of. Everyone on the team made that much happen.
4. Its no secret that you have been playing hockey for a very long time now. Are you feeling any aches and pains or do you think you can still go on for a while yet? I am feeling aches and pains. They are the same aches and pains I felt 25 years ago playing. It just takes longer to recover. The bruise on the thigh from a random slapshot now takes 5 weeks to go away. I will be playing until I start looking foolish out there, then I'll hang it up. With that said... there is always room to start recruiting XHL players for some winter racquetball matches.
5. Reynoldsville and Brockway are completely different styles of hockey. Do you think you have adjusted to the style of play in Reynoldsville yet? Both locations have their pros and cons. Obviously, no rain outs and playing through the winter months is a plus for the rink. I think I probably enjoy playing on the wood floor as well. Brockway has THE PUCK, a slightly larger playing surface, and some nice rounded corners for me to throwing around. Those are all positives for Brockway. It IS nice to be outside in the summer from time to time as well.... just as long as it isn't too sunny lest I burn up and turn to dust. The big adjustment for me is just changing wheels.
Alex Waddell (Orange)
1. 9-6 loss to white last night. What can you say about the overall team effort in the loss? I thought we played well it was a lot of back and forth. Both goalies faced a lot of shots. Tony keeps improving so hopefully by the playoffs we can pull it all together.
2. Bubba was on last night. Do you think he was the difference maker in the game? He definitely played a great game. Maybe one of the best I’ve seen him play. It looks like he has improved a lot so hopefully he can keep that up.
3. Noah filled in for Zac last night. How do you compare the 2? I’d say they are similar in skill level but pretty different styles of play. It was good to play with Noah though he set me up with some nice chances a few times.
4. You were a part of the Knights squad in Brockway this summer. How do you think you were able to fit in with that group? It was definitely a different game than I’m used to playing. They bring a lot of speed to the game. I think if the Knights had someone better in net they could have easily won it all.
5. What positives can you take out of the game last night? Any time I get to play it’s a positive. I got a few goals too so that felt good. The team did pretty well and Tony made the saves he needed to.
