Yeti rally for game 2 victory. Who will they play in round 2?
Brandon Reiter tied for the league lead in goals this season. So when he found his team down a goal with 2 and a half minutes to go in regulation, he decided to do what he’s done best for nearly two decades in the XHL. He let it rip. His slap shot from the center line found its way to an open part of the net to tie the game at 5 and send the Yeti and Colonials to a sudden death overtime.
In the opening minute of the extra frame, Derik Day’s slap shot came inches away from giving the Colonials the victory. Instead, the shot caromed off the post and play continued. Not long after, a Phil Pompeii point shot grazed off a skate in front, right to the stick of Brandon Reiter who was able to shovel it home for the game-winning goal and send the Yeti to the second round of the playoffs.
The game started much like it finished Monday. Jarrod Currin backhanded a centering feed from Cody Schuckers to give the Yeti a 1-0 lead. But the Colonials had answers and scored the next two. The Yeti countered with 2 of their own and took a 3-2 lead into the second period.
The Colonials came out firing in the second period and rattled off the next 3 goals to take a 5-3 lead. Mike Jacobson got it to within one near the end of the frame to set up the third period drama. No goals were scored until Reiter’s slap shot near the end of regulation.
Cody Schuckers led the Yeti with 4 assists while Reiter and Jacobson scored a pair of goals each. Bob and Brian Anderson each had 2 goals and 2 assists. Both goalies made 38 saves in the contest. The Colonials played without Steve Kalgren who hurt his knee in Monday’s contest. The Yeti will await their second round opponent, as the Knights mull over their choice of competitors.

Renegades firing on all cylinders -------------- who will they play in round 2?
The Renegades’ offense is humming like a well-tuned engine at the right time of year, as they rolled through the Yeti by the way of a 15-3 score Wednesday to advance to the second round. That caps off 31 goals scored in two games.
The Renegades kept Jeremy Lee busy in the Jagrbombs net, hurling 63 shots his way before ending the game in the final two minutes with a mercy-rule victory. Eric Llewellyn scored 5 of those goals. Pat Hunter led all scorers with 2 goals and 4 assists while Mike Lehman pitched in 3 goals and 3 assists.
Josh Clontz wasn’t only about half as busy in the other net, stopping 25 shots to earn the win. Ben Rossi scored a pair of goals and added a helper while Cory Schuckers had the other goal and assist. The league would like to thank the Jagrbombs for playing this season.
