1. Another XHL season complete ---- how would you describe the season overall for yourself and for your team? I think we had a great season just came up short against a really good team in the finals. It was fun playing with this group and it is hard to win them all.
2. Colonials saved their best for the finals. What do you think they did better at in those 2 games than they did in the 2 regular season games against your guys? They for sure saved their best for last, they looked really good. They kept their composure after getting down early in both games and answered quickly. They pressured well and picked their spots and made plays. Very solid in all layers of the game and really didn’t make many mistakes. We on the other hand, as a whole, looked to have played our worse at the wrong time.
3. What was it like playing on this particular group of teammates? Great group of teammates, had a lot of fun playing this season.
4. Do you consider seasons without championships a failure or do you look at the glass half full? I suppose it is a failure because I like to compete and win, but I have my name on the cup a few times so I guess that makes it easier to take and is the glass half full. You are not going to win everything, and failure is often the foundation to success.
5. You, Adam, Bob and Fred have been around the league the longest ------ whats it been like competing for and against those particular guys over the years? It has been a pleasure and without hockey and the league I may have never known these guys. I’ve very much enjoyed playing with and against them. Bob I can remember was newer to the game when the league started out. He rather quickly turned into one of the elite talents and still continues his high level playmaking to this day. Adam has always been one of the best goalies and I personally have always felt an extra bit of accomplishment scoring against him. And Fred for as long as I can remember has always been a steady, hard to play against defensemen…something that at times can be hard to find in our league. To this day I always know if I go in front of his net it is going to get physical.
6. Pens down 2-0. Whats your gut telling you for tonights game? I’m a Penguins fan and I’m a believer they can compete, but it has been a hard watch these last couple games. Going down 0-2 at home is of course not ideal, but it is a best of seven series. It’s funny how fast some people pack it in. I think getting on the road will be good. It could, however, also be the perfect setting for another nail to be driven into the coffin. If we see adjustments to our lineup and our approach, then my gut is telling me we will see a response in this critical game 3. And if we get to play at home again can we please be back in black? Yellow jerseys don’t seem to help. And Match…stay home.
7. How about an early stanley cup finals winner? I’ll go Colorado.
8. Pirates are 13-10. Have you watched or followed at all and do you think they can finish over .500 this season? I have not followed much at this point but I am going to say yes to over .500 this season.
9. You will probably be spending a lot of time on the baseball field ----- what words of advice do you give to your kids if they fail at it from time to time? If they are failing at something, learn from it and adjust to get better. If they want to get better, put in the work. I will help them the best I can, but there are lots of things one can do on their own to get better.
10. Randy Carlson tournament coming up. How would you describe that event now to when you first started playing in it several years ago? It gets bigger and better every year, it’s really cool to see. So I tip my hat to the organizers and participants that make it happen.
