XHL Memories

Jerred Amick

1. Most memorable xhl game that you played in?

2006 rogue championship where I scored the game winning championship goal against the maniax with 7 seconds left, to start the rogue dynasty of winning three consecutive championships.

2. Most entertaining xhl games that you have watched?

I remember playing in the rogue contenders championship and Bob announced that there was record breaking attendance of 118 and there was no fence space on all four sides of the rink in brockway. The most people I have ever played in front of as well as it being a night game. Ended up loosing but I remember it being the most entertaining game I have played in. It was awesome.

The contenders were fun to watch with reiter and Jeffery.

11. Anything else you want to throw out there: I played in this league a long time & have seen tons of players, teams & wonderful things happen. Probably way to many to remember but they were all made possible thanks to Bob Anderson starting this league. Thanks for giving this old dude a place to play for 14 years. Bob Anderson

1. Most memorable xhl game that you played in?

I don’t remember details very well but a play-in game against the Voodoo years ago stands out. They were leading by a goal and we were able to score as the buzzer sounded to end the contest. The referees had a conference to determine if the goal would even count to send it to overtime. They said yes, probably because the spectators watching were chanting in support. We played quite a while in overtime with nobody scoring until we were able to get one by Tim Herman to end the game.

2. Most entertaining xhl games that you have watched?

There are way too many to remember them, but there was a great finals series I remember between the dominant Maniax and the upstart Hot Shots in one of our final years at Brockway. The games went down to the final seconds with the Maniax finally prevailing.

Also the Rogue vs Contenders final in 2003 was epic. Ryan Drayer’s overtime goal sealed the deal for the Contenders.

3. Who are some of the best people you have met in the xhl that you didn’t know before you started playing in the xhl?

Sooo many! Most of my friends are people I’ve met through the XHL. From the first years to today, the XHL is special because of the people who participate.

4. Any goals or plays that stand out most in your xhl career? For goalies, any saves that really stand out?

I wish I could remember them as vividly as Rob Stanley always does, by there were definitely some big plays from our time playing in tournaments down in Pittsburgh. I remember playing the Lancaster team and losing. We were short handed and I think I was able to score a couple shorties during that stretch. And I remember Kevin Smith scoring a game winner, maybe in overtime, to win a championship I believe. Again, I don’t remember for sure.

5. What players have you seen improve the most as the xhl years have passed by?

Pretty much everyone has followed the same script from beginner and working their way up. I remember watching some young players in the Junior XHL like Austin Boyd and Derek Miksich grow to become some of the best players in the XHL. I remember watching Joe Bussard, Derik Day, and Henry Deible in their first year in Brockway go from not making the playoffs to being the most dominant trio in the league for a while. How about a goalie like Clint Lingenfelter become one of the best in the league? So many!

6. What are some of the xhl’s best rivals over the years?

Certainly the Rogue and Contenders. It was probably the first great league rivalry. The Rogue and Colonials played some good ones. There was the Rogue and Maniax too. Pretty much the Rogue versus whoever was the other top team for about the first 10 years of the league.

7. What player “duo” have you watched that play the best together?

The first that comes to mind is the Reiter-Jeffery tandem from the early years in the league. Both guys could fly and were super exciting to watch together.

The Rogue had an awesome goalie duo in Rob Keith and Adam McKinley. They were like the Fleury-Murray duo of the XHL.

How about Kevin Smith and Dave Jewell? They played together for many seasons to the dismay of their competitors.

In modern times I like the Calvert-Schindler and Lehman-Hunter duos.

8. Favorite XHL team name throughout the years?

I’m not sure but I’ll go with the Voodoo since they embodied the personality of their player/GM Mike Berta.

9. Best XHL teams of all time?

There will probably never be a more talented team than the Punishers of 2002. They lived up to their name.

As for history though, the dynasties that stand out are the Rogue, Contenders, and Maniax. They all had very dominant stretches.

That said, there is only one team that has existed from the opening of the league to today and that’s the Colonials. I don’t think we had the same dominant stretches as those other teams, but we have the longest tenure for sure.

10. Favorite XHL Uniforms?

Anybody who had matching jerseys and socks gets my vote haha.

11. Anything else you want to throw out there:

There will be more coming on the website to mark the 2020 season. Stay tuned!
