Colonials 14  Hounds 4  ----- Phil Mace is back, Another big night for Jay Edmiston

The Hounds hung around for a while, but the colonials gradually pulled away as the 2nd period and 3rd period went on.  Cody Haag scored about 5 minutes into the 2nd period to close the colonial lead to 4-2, but the colonials answered with 4 unanswered goals to end the 2nd period.   Bob Anderson opened the scoring up on the first shot of the game and the colonials would score early and often to go up 4-0 before Hound goalie Chris Snyder could blink an eye.   Phil Mace made his season debut last night and looks to be fresh and ready for what the colonials hope will be a productive season for him.  Mace, Bob and Jay Edmiston did most of the damage for the colonials offensively throughout the game.  The Hounds were able to slowly work their way back into the game as the first period went on thanks to a lot of good saves from Snyder after the first 4 colonial shots found their way into the net.  Unfortunately for the Hounds, the colonials recruited Tony Dodd to goalie (Match was unable to make it last night) and got some really good goaltending throughout the game, especially early when the game was closer.  Jaron Buffone scored on a nice wrister to get the Hounds on the board and the colonial lead was cut to 4-1.  The game got away completely by the 8 minute mark of the 3rd period when the colonials scored a barrage of goals to go from an 8-2 lead to a 13-3 lead in a short time span.  Braxton Mckinley scored for the hounds along with Tyler Stitt later in the 3rd period.  The colonials are now 2-0 on the season.  On a good note for the Hounds, they may have Corey Bassett available to play on a more regular basis going forward.  The Hounds had their share of chances to score last night but weren’t able to get many by Tony Dodd.

Knights 14  Bear Claw 2 ---- Knights look to be in midseason form

The Knights improved to 2-0 on the season with a 14-2 win over the Bear Claw.  Brandon Reiter already looks to be in midseason form while Andy and Noah aren’t far behind him.  Last night was Andy’s first game of the season and he contributed early and often as well.  Noah added some goals in the first period to help give the knights a 5-0 lead by the end of the first period.  The bear claw had some good chances to score throughout the game, especially early in the first period but Clint made sure not to give them any life.  The lead grew to 8-0 before Laken scored for the bear claw late in the 2nd period.  Brice Miller would add their other goal but the Knights would eventually mercy rule them late in the 3rd period.  The Knights improve to 2-0 on the season while the bear claw fell to 1-2.

Yeti 12 Walkers 0 ---- Too bad there is only one ball to go around

The Yeti had everyone but Kevin in their lineup last night and displayed their full potential with a 12-0 3rd period mercy rule win over the walkers.  This may be the best walkers team we have seen with improved players from before and some good new faces on their team (Stinchcomb, Chesley and Jeremy Johnson) but they got down early in this one.  Ben Rossi made his debut last night and contributed 4 first period goals with one of them coming on a nice pass from Braxton.  RJ scored a first period goal as well before letting Zach Smith and Cody Schuckers take over more in the 2nd and 3rd period.  The lead grew to 10-0 by the end of 2 periods.  Troy Gaydosh had a good chance denied by Adam McKinley early in the 3rd period that could have broke the shutout.   The walkers did have some chances to score and got a penalty kill on a Jeremy Johnson penalty in the 2nd period (if they are looking for positives to take out of this one).   It may be hard for too many teams to find positives against the yeti when they have their full team present.  Derik Day and Dave Jewell didn't even have to do that much which is a bad sign for other teams going forward. The win improves to yeti to 2 and 1 on the season while the walkers fell to 0-3.  Their road wont get any easier with the Knights waiting for them next.  With all this said, we have a schedule change below (We want to reverse the January 27th games with the February 3rd games so the yeti and walkers can switch bye nights).   If you see this write up, spread the word to your teammates so they are aware and let us know if the time of your game doesn’t work out.

In addition, we are going to have a benefit ironman tournament for Laken on Saturday, March 1st at the rink.  We made the arrangements there last night.  Please let us know if you are interested in playing.  Make your own team with the cost being $25 a person ($125 a team).   For anyone that doesn’t know by now, Laken will be doing some traveling for hockey in the upcoming months and the proceeds will help with some of the costs.

With all the games being double digits, we will take a break from the stars and interviews and resume next week.
