Yeti rally for 7-6 shootout win

This didn’t feel like a normal game.  The Yeti didn’t even know if they would have enough players when the 620 p.m. game horn sounded.  A couple of their players thought they would need to make a trip back to Kittanning, but after 45 minutes of hockey, a 5 minute overtime and what felt like a 45 minute shootout, the Yeti found a way to prevail.  In Bob’s post game interview, he mentioned that Yeti lost a lot of skill from previous seasons, but the experience is still there.  A big part of that experience is Adam and he showed exactly that in the last half of the game and then again in the shootout.   Noah set Brian up for a goal midway through the 2nd period to give the Colonials a 5-1 lead and considering some of the good scoring chances they had throughout the first part of the game, it looked like they were well in control.   A minute or so later, Dave Jewell scored to stop the bleeding but it still looked like the colonials were in control.   Just as the 2nd period ended, the yeti (Braxton) scored again to cut the deficit to 5-3.  RJ had a couple third period goals to put the Yeti ahead 6-5 before Noah scored one of his four goals late in regulation to tie the game at 6.  The Colonials were up 2-0 early in the game.  Jake had a shot turned down by Adam but Noah batted it in to give the Colonials a 1-0 lead.  He would score again to put them ahead 2-0 in the first period before Zach Foradori scored on a colonial turnover to close the gap to 2-1.  The colonials would go on to score the next 3 goals (Noah, Phil, Brian) to go ahead 5-1 before the Yeti rallied for 5 unanswered.  As Bob said in his interview, it’s a game the colonials will want to forget about as soon as possible.  Both Adam and Match played well in the shootout for their respective teams.  They also played well in the 3 on 3,  3 minute overtime session.  In what seemed like another full period in itself, RJ scored in the shootout for the Yeti.

Who was that goalie for the Bear Claw?

Kaden said he would not be present for the bear claw last night, opening the door for Brian to fill in again.  2 minutes into the game, Brian was hoping Kaden would not have had to work after Tyler Waltman scored for the Venom to go up 1-0.  Brian initially made a save on Troy Gaydosh but had trouble securing control of the ball which ended up costing his team a goal.   Brian had trouble possessing control of the ball all throughout the game when he made saves but maybe better control of the ball will come with more practice.  Tony made some really good saves in the first part of the game and Brian made a lot of good saves in the last part of the game.   Troy Gaydosh had a nice goal midway through the 2nd period to tie the game at 2 but the bear claw started finding ways to get more shots and started getting more shots past Tony.  Jaron Buffone and Braxton led the way early, then Alex Waddell and John Matchock combined for 5 goals in their fill in roles to put the bear claw in control of the game.  A 2-2 tie midway through the 2nd period turned into a 6-3 bear claw lead by the end of the 2nd.  Troy Gaydosh set Laken up for the Venom’s only goal of the 3rd period.  Laken was filling in for a couple missing players on the Venom.  It felt like Gaydosh was all over the court and he played a part in all 4 of the Venom’s goals.  The Bear Claw played a solid defensive game and started to pull away more and more in the 3rd period to get their 2nd win of the season against the Venom.

Not a boring night for Clay Halpin

Clay Halpin was not expecting a boring game.  Its one of those predictions where he wishes he would have been wrong.   He played a solid game for the Eagles in net, but there is only so much anyone can do when Brandon, Andy, Zach and Cory are on the other side.   They also have a scoring veteran in Jason Stamler but the Eagles were able to keep him off the board last night.    Andy followed up on his good game last week against the Colonials by scoring 4 goals against the Eagles to lead the way for the Invaders offensively.  Its hard to keep track of all their good passing, but one of Andy’s goals came on a nice pass from Zach Smith to put them up 5-3 late in the 2nd period.   The turning point of this game may have come midway through the 2nd period when Clint made a big save on a shot attempt from Eric Llewellyn.   The save kept the Invaders ahead 4-3 at that time.  No Zac Gray for the Eagles last night, but they came ready to play and found themselves ahead 1-0 early in the game thanks to good passing from Denny and good shooting from Eric Llewellyn.    Later in the period, their roles reversed with good passing from Llewellyn and good shooting from Denny to tie the game at 2 late in the first period.  Jerred Amick set Denny up for a 2nd period goal to tie the game at 3 but the Invaders would go on to score the next 4 goals and found themselves up 7-3 with around 5 minutes to go in the 3rd period.  Zach Smith and Brandon Reiter each had 2 goals while Cory had another to keep the invaders in control.  The Eagles cut the lead to 7-5 late in the 3rd period after Alex Waddell set Jerred Amick up for a goal followed by Larry scoring a goal to close the gap to 7-5 with a little over 2 minutes remaining.   The Invaders can score quick and they did just that by scoring 2 goals in the next minute or so of regulation to go up 9-5 late in the 3rd period.
