Standings after November 4th games:
1. Orange 8 (35/26)
2. Sky Blue 8 (33/25)
3. Gray 6 (31/27)
4. Black 4 (29/37)
5. Red 4 (22/28)
6. Yellow 2 (26/36)
Jake Kline wanted to take the fall off to regroup, but he continues to find himself filling in for missing players. Phil Pompeii made his return to the court last night while team Yellow lost another close game at the end. They will try to get their first win in the 2nd half of the season. Zach Foradori is bringing his fantasy football magic to the Reynoldsville rollerdrome as he was a part of 2 wins last night. Team Red is simply looking for more players to show up. Steve Pompeii and Jeremy Johnson should be available to play for them next week. Bubba bounced back in net for Sky Blue last night as they improved to 4-1 on the season. We would also like to congratulate Laken Dodd on being chosen for the USA Jr World's team!!
Sky Blue 9 Black 5
Sky Blue got Cody Schuckers back in the lineup after a 3 week absence helping lead his team to a 4-1 lead by the end of the first period. Jake Kline thought he was going to get a night off, but Jerred Amick said that he would not be available to play last night. The void opened up the door for Jake Kline to play again and he was excited to hear about the opportunity (not really). It was an all around team effort for sky blue with each Cody (Haag and Schuckers) scoring twice, Anthony scored twice, with Waltman, Kline and Stitt each scoring as well. Bubba gave up a couple long shots but played a solid game in net otherwise to keep his team ahead. Andy and Noah have had trouble getting their players to show up but Andy got a boost when Phil Pompeii made his way back into the lineup last night. Unfortunately, they were without Corey Bassett for a 2nd consecutive week. Andy had 4 of the teams 5 goals while Josh Clontz added the other one. Andy scored a couple quick ones in the 2nd period to cut the deficit to 6-4 but thats as close as they would get. The win for sky blue puts them in a tie for 1st as the 2nd half of the season approaches. Regardless of what happens, each team will be guaranteed at least 2 playoff games but getting a top overall seed would mean a couple potential games against the bottom team to start out the double elimination playoffs.
Orange 7 Gray 4
It was a complete win for team orange last night. They blocked a lot of shots and got some really good goal tending from Clint last night. Joe Roush scored the first goal of the game and would later add another while Jason Stamler scored a couple goals early in the game as well for Orange. They had to go up against their own player (John Matchock) as he was asked to goalie for a missing Tony Dodd on team Gray last night. That opened up the door for Zach Foradori to fill in for Matchocks skating role and he contributed a couple big goals to help keep orange in front throughout the game. Team Gray kept Zac Gray fairly quiet in the scoring department but he contributed in other ways throughout the game. Orange was ahead 2-0 midway thru the first period until Bob Anderson set Brian Anderson up for team grays first goal. Orange quickly answered with 2 of their own to go up by 3 goals in the late stages of the first period until Bob Anderson took a pass from Brian Anderson a little past center court, taking it to the net to draw team gray to within 2 going into the 2nd period. Cory Schuckers scored early in the 2nd period to cut the deficit to 4-3 but that’s when Zach Foradori did some damage to team gray scoring a couple times between their 5th goal and 7th goal to put the game out of reach. Cory Schuckers would add a power play goal midway thru the 3rd period but Clint and team Orange did a good job of blocking shots the rest of the way. Orange finds itself at the top of the standings going into the 2nd half of the season.
Red 7 Yellow 6
Red picked up its 2nd win of the season last night with a hard fought, 7-6 win over Yellow. Yellow led 5-4 going into the 3rd period following late 2nd period goals from Brice Miller and Larry but Red rallied in the 3rd period. Once again, they needed to add a few players to the roster (Jeff has not come yet and Steve Pompeii is not available to start playing until next week). They did get Morgan Lyons back in the lineup last night after missing a couple games and Peach. Peach scored the only goal in the first period until things opened up some in the 2nd period. Noah Kline led the way offensively for red as they would find themselves up 4-3 in the later stages of the 2nd period. Laken Dodd filled in and added a goal for red. Zach Foradori filled in for red as well and contributed an important goal. Team Yellow’s goalie, Adam McKinley, found himself victim of a couple crazy bounces later in the game which led to goals for team Red. Ben Rossi continues to play well for team yellow as he contributed a couple goals in another competitive, close loss for his team. Red should have a little more of a lineup next week with Steve Pompeii making his debut and Jeremy Johnson will be available.
Bob Anderson (Gray)
1. 7-4 loss to orange last night. What can you say about the overall team effort in the loss?
The effort was great. The problem was, the orange effort was great as well. We had quite a few chances, but orange did a good job of counter-attacking and Clint was really solid in net.
2. They got ahead by 3 goals early. Did you think that set the stage for the entire game?
Definitely! We had to play catch-up and that made it difficult for us. They were able to take away our passing lanes and force some turnovers along the way.
3. Reynoldsville and Brockway are very different. How do you think you are adjusting to the style of play in Reynoldsville so far?
It is way different. It definitely took me a week to settle back into using a ball and skating on the wood floor. I was used to sliding more when I tried to stop. Now, I can actually stop when I want to stop. The ball is easier to control as well but I like shooting a puck more in Brockway.
4. What was your impression of the opponent last night?
I knew we were in for a good game against them. I picked Orange to win the league. They didn't disappoint me. They are really solid all around and it'll take a complete effort to beat them in the playoffs if we see them again. They are fast, scrappy, and opportunistic.
5. To make the night more disappointing, the chiefs won in overtime last night to remain unbeaten. Do you think Tampa Bay should have gone for 2 when they scored with 27 seconds left (I was watching the game live and wanted them to go for the win after scoring that touchdown)?
I fell asleep when the Chiefs were losing, but I was pretty confident that when I woke up, they would pull it out. I was mostly concerned with Patrick Mahomes getting me enough fantasy points to win in fantasy football this week. But to answer your question, I think they probably should have gone for 2 but perhaps the analytics wouldn't agree with me?
Alex Waddell (Orange)
1. 7-4 win over gray last night. How would you describe the overall team effort in the win? It didn’t feel like we played our best game but we still came out on top. We didn’t play bad either but we are still capable of stepping it up a notch. They are a tough team with a lot of firepower, a few bounces the other way and the score could have easily been reversed.
2. How would you describe Clints play in net last night along with the defensive effort with all your blocked shots? We knew had to play a little tighter defense from the previous week when we had Henry in net but he managed to stop a couple of the shots that got past me. Joking aside I thought Clint had a great night. He was frustrated with the first couple that went in but kept his head and made some big saves to keep us in it. There were a few points where they were pouring the shots on for what seemed like 5 minutes straight and he held it down.
3. Jay is old (at least he says he is) but he is still scoring a lot of goals. How do you think he has fit in with this team so far? We’re all old. I think my team might have the oldest average age, I’ll have to figure that out sometime. Jay still gets it done and has always had a great shot. I really like playing with him. I think our whole team has good chemistry and he’s a huge part of that.
4. How do you think you guys did trying to contain guys like Bob, Zach and Cory last night? It was tough for sure. Any one of the 3 of them are capable of taking over a game alone. We did a good job blocking their shots and Clint stopped the rest.
5. Zach Foradori took Match’s place last night. How do you think he did in his fill in role? Zach fits in pretty well with any team. He did a good job filling in on D when we needed him to and is always a threat offensively. As a forward on the Eagles for the last two years he learned to play D pretty well. He also spent a lot of time on the bench learning from the best. It will be nice to get Match back but I’d take Zach as a fill in any time.
Jake Kline (Sky Blue)
1. 9-5 win last night. How would you describe the overall team effort in the win? Team effort was good.
2. You wanted a little bit of a break from hockey after Brockway ended. How are you feeling after all this hockey these days? I feel good big thing is filling in for teams isn't as stressful as being on a team. Think I kinda like it a bit more that way
3. What do you think overall team chemistry has been like for you guys? Team chemistry needs a bit of work
4. Bubba may have been the biggest question mark on this roster, but he has been holding his own so far. How would you describe his effort last night? He played a decant game last night. Still needs to work on things and get moving around and tracking the ball better
5. How would you describe the Knights season this summer in Brockway? Was it disappointing to finish in 2nd again? It was definitely disappointing to finish in 2nd. And I feel that we didn't play our best hockey in the finals. The games should have been closer than they were. Hope to come back in xhl and srhl and be the top team and end seasons with another championship but we are gonna have to earn it for sure
