Yeti 9  Colonials 4

It was a highly competitive night of hockey at the rink last night and it all started with the Yeti taking down the Colonials 9-4.  The yeti led from start to finish, but only found themselves up 6-4 with about 5 minutes left to go before quickly pulling away following a time out.   Following the time out, Brian Anderson mis timed putting his stick down following a colonial face off win leading to a Zach Smith goal for the yeti to quickly take the momentum away from the colonials.  The onslaught continued when Dave Jewell got a good shot off which Derrian initially saved but the ball found its way to Ben Rossi and just like that, the Yeti had a 4 goal lead.  Rossi had a couple nice rebound goals on the night for the yeti.  Derrian was able to goalie for the colonials last night so his dad could skate out.  Jay Edmiston was a late afternoon scratch for the colonials which could have used some of his offensive magic in this game.  Derik Day found Zach Smith open in front of the net about 5 minutes into the first period to give the yeti a 1-0 lead and Braxton made a real nice pass to Day a couple minutes later to give them a 2-0 lead.  They had some very good passing leading to goals throughout the game.  Dave Jewell scored to put them up 3-0 with about 6 minutes to go in the first period.  The colonials temporarily stopped the momentum when Phil Mace set Brian Anderson up for a goal to close the gap to 3-1 but Ben Rossi answered less than a minute later to give the yeti a 4-1 lead after the first period.  The colonials were able to kill a yeti power play to start out the 2nd period and got their 2nd goal off a nice Phil Mace rebound on a shot from Brian Anderson that was initially saved by Adam.  Once again, the yeti answered to go up 5-2 (Zach) but the Colonials closed the gap to 5-3 late in the 2nd period when John Matchock got a nice rebound off a shot from Bob.  Phil Mace scored his 2nd goal of the night with 5 minutes to go in the 3rd period to close the yeti lead to 6-4 but that’s when the yeti pulled away following a time out.   The colonials will look to bounce back against the eagles while the yeti will get their 2nd game of the season against the knights next week.  The Knights are the only team to beat the yeti so far this season.

Bear Claw 10  Walkers 9  Shootout

On a night where some of the leagues top teams were going up against one another, what else could we have asked for in the middle game?  This could have been the most entertaining game of the season.  Unlike when these 2 teams faced off against one another on opening night, which ended in a surprise mercy rule win for the bear claw, this game came down to a shootout with Kaden holding his own for the bear claw on the walkers final attempt to keep this game going.  The walkers were just 2 minutes away from their first victory when the bear claw pulled Kaden from the net, but they were unable to get the ball out of their own zone which led to Anthony Schuckers scoring the tying goal for the Bear Claw with a little under 2 minutes to go.  Vinnie Deloia had a couple big 3rd period goals for the bear claw including one to close the gap to 9-8 before Anthony scored to tie the game at 9. Troy Gaydosh was not there on opening night for the walkers and it showed when they got mercy ruled in that game.  He was there last night and was a part of most of their goals, either by scoring them or by making some nice passes to Denny or Mark Chesley.    Denny also had a big night for the walkers but it was not quite enough to earn them their first win of the season.   They can at least say they got their first point in the standings and they deserved more after their effort last night.  The Bear Claw got up early in the game and went up 4-2 at the end of the first period following a coast to coast goal from Zach Foradori.  We will have to read his final thoughts to see how he felt following that goal.  He also scored in the shootout but they were mainly reliant on Vinnie and Anthony to do their scoring last night.    The walkers went ahead 9-7 in the later stages of the 3rd period but they were unable to hang on.  Both goalies made some good saves in this game with Tony Dodd making a couple good saves late in regulation and in overtime to at least give his team a chance to win in the shootout.   Hats off to both teams on giving us a very entertaining game.

Knights 7  Eagles 3

The Knights continued their unbeaten season with a 7-3 victory over the Eagles on Monday at 8:20.  Though the Knights had to work for this one, the outcome was never really in doubt.

Noah Kline and Brandon Reiter got the Knights out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first period.  Andy Calvert added a breakaway goal of his own early in the second period to increase the lead to three before Alex Waddell plugged the wound for the Eagles to make it 3-1.

The Knights quickly erased any hopes the Eagles had in the third period with 4 goals in the first 5:30 of the frame.  Jake Kline snuck one past Adam McKinley, who filled in for Henry Sutter, after Calvert won an offensive zone draw.  Jerred Amick answered less than a minute later for the Eagles but back to back goals from Nate Galentine and Brandon Reiter sunk the comeback hopes.

Clint Lingenfelter was solid as usual for the Knights in net, but didn't face nearly as many high danger attempts as McKinley did at the other end.

The Eagles had their whole lineup last night minus Sutter, and certainly gave it their all effort wise.  The juggernaut that is the Knights was just too much on this night.
