Eagles 8  Bear Claw 5 ------- Would you rather have Zach Foradori or Josh Clontz?

There are no points awarded in the standings for moral victories, but the Bear Claw had to feel pretty good about their efforts in an 8-5 loss to the Eagles Monday at 6:20.

After falling behind 4-1 mid-way through the second period, the Bear Claw scratched their way back into the game.  Henry Sutter turned away a wrister from former teammate Zach Foradori, but Laken Dodd was there to clean up the mess to make it 4-2.  Austin Boyd scored soon after to regain the 3-goal advantage but Brice Miller took advantage of a rare 4 on 2 powerplay to get the Bear Claw back within one to close out the second frame.  Anthony Schuckers made it 5-4 early in the third period after a nice feed from Foradori.

That's as close as the score would get though, as the Eagles scored 3 of the final 4 goals to improve to a perfect 3-0 on the season.  Eric Llewellyn led the way with 3 goals and Josh Clontz added a pair of goals and assist.  Foradori led the Bear Claw with a goal and two assists.  Anthony Schuckers netted a pair of goals.

The Eagles have weathered the injury bug early in the season but will take on the Colonials next week in what appears to be a pretty evenly matched contest on paper.  The Bear Claw have not had it easy.  After a debut victory over the Walkers, they've dropped the last three to the Colonials, Knights, and Eagles.  Despite the losses, they played the Colonials and Eagles very competitively.  They'll look to bounce back against the winless Hounds next Monday.

Yeti 5  Colonials 2

Goals weren’t exactly easy to come by in this game, but the Yeti did not make any mistakes for the colonials to capitalize on.  The Colonials were forced to try to play a very defensive minded game with the absences of Jay Edmiston and Rooster.  The plan worked for the most part, but the yeti did not make enough mistakes to open up too many good scoring chances for the colonials.  Cody Schuckers had 2 first period goals for the Yeti to open up a 2-0 lead before Phil Mace got a nice rebound shot off a Bob Anderson shot to close the colonial deficit to 2-1 at the end of the first period.  Zach Smith made a nice pass to Ben Rossi in front of the net midway thru the 2nd period to give the Yeti a 3-1 lead but Bob got the colonials to within a goal at 3-2 when he got a rebound off of a series of opportunities that were initially denied by Adam McKinley.   Zach Smith answered soon after for the Yeti to give them a 4-2 lead late in the 2nd period and Dave Jewell scored early in the 3rd period to give the yeti a 5-2 lead which would hold up for the remaining 10 plus minutes of the 3rd period.   Clint played in net for the Colonials to open up the door for John Matchock to skate out.  Solid goal tending played a big part in keeping the colonials within striking distance throughout the game.  The Yeti were playing without Derik Day and also got news that Kevin Smith will not be available to play this season.   They will get a bye next week while the Colonials will try to bounce back against the unbeaten Eagles at 820 next week.

Knights 15  Hounds 4

We had a lot of people missing in the late game last night.  No Cory or Nate for the Knights.  Noah was at the rink but did not play either.  The Hounds were missing Cody Haag, Jaron Buffone and Jeremy Sawey which opened the door for both the McKinley’s to skate out.  Braxton scored on the opening faceoff for the hounds and Tyler Waltman scored on the next faceoff to give the Hounds a 2-0 lead less than a minute into the game.  Clint may have wore himself out in the game before that when he goalied for the Colonials and faced a bunch of shots from the Yeti, saving all but 5 of them.  The Knights eventually got it together and took a 4-3 lead at the end of the first period.  The scoring was pretty spread out between Brandon Reiter, Andy and Jason Stamler while Jake Kline added a few goals as well.  Brandon and Andy had some nice connections as well, mainly in the 2nd period when the Knights started to put the game out of reach.  They went up 9-3 before Tyler Waltman scored his 2nd goal of the game to close the gap to 9-4 but the Knights went on to score 5 unanswered goals in the 3rd period to give them their 3rd win of the season.  The Hounds have had a tough stretch of games and will hope for a little easier stretch going forward.  They should have some more bodies next week when they go up against the Bear Claw.  The Knights will go up against the walkers.

Peach (Bear Claw)

1. 8-5 loss to the eagles last night. What can you say about the overall team effort in the loss? I don’t think we could have asked for much more other than about 4 more goals. We didn’t get a ton of chances either but we’re still able to make a game out of it.

2. You guys lost, but does it feel like a moral victory in a way? . I guess I could say we needed a loss like that. Better than the last two atleast. We had a short bench and put up a fight against a good team. Not too bad. After that beating we took last week we considered changing our name to Rodney King.

3. Kaden continues to get better. What have you noticed out of him this season?  His awareness is picking up, he’s tracking the ball well, and it seems like he’s finding his angles better. He’s made some big saves, and made a few yesterday to keep us in it. They could have easily had 10-12 goals but he stood tall. He’s developing well for a young goalie, and he’s only going to keep getting better.

4. How do you compare this mix of guys (and girl) so some of your previous mayhem teams? Technically we’re still 37.5% Mayhem. You’ll also find Mayhem in the Hounds, The Knights, and even in the Eagles. Mayhem really is everywhere…

5. Got a super bowl prediction?   I don’t think I’ve seen our country this united since 9/11. Fly Eagles, Fly!

Larry (Eagles)

1. 8-5 win over the bear claw last night. What can you say about the overall team effort in the win?  Team effort was good even if our play was sub par. We kept making adjustments to make sure we won that game

 2. The game tightened up in the 3rd period. Were you getting worried at all? Wasn’t worried more just frustrated with our play. But knowing Foradori was on the other end I knew they would make some mistakes we could capitalize on.

3. You drafted Kaden in a draft league a little while back and he had some growing pains to say the least. What have you noticed from him since that first league took place? Kaden just keeps getting better. Things were rough to start but he keeps putting in the work to get better. For this past holiday tournament he was the goalie I was hoping to grab, and he played well.

4. Colonials next week. What kind of game do you expect from them? Much slower than what we have seen so far this season. Colonials play a unique style in this league. Plus you never know how many fill ins you have to deal with

5. Jerred and Zac are still healing. How do you think the rest of you have looked chemistry wise in these first 3 games? Chemistry has been good so far. Jerred is going to fit right in when he finally returns. Zac is just a guy that anyone can play with. He works hard every minute he plays.

Brian Anderson (Colonials)

  1. You were under the weather over the weekend but got plenty of playing time Monday with the Colonials only have 1 sub.  How are you feeling after all that cardio?  Pretty rough when I first woke up but better now.   I was just thankful I was able to spend time outside of a bathroom last night.  That was a pretty rough weekend but I always look forward to Monday nights.

  1. The Yeti are likely a top contender to win the league this season.  Your team kept the game close despite having few good scoring opportunities.  Were you more encouraged or discouraged by the way that game played out?  Very encouraged.  Jay would have added some offense for sure.  I am a little worried about Rooster though.  He would make a difference if he was able to come.  I feel like we simply need one more person to be able to compete with some of the league’s top teams.

  1. This is your first time playing with Jay Edmiston.  He played in Brockway last year but it is his first time playing in the XHL.  What has been your initial impression of him through a pair of games?  I think he is going to be a great fit for us.  He is usually at the right place at the right time and I think he will be a great team player as the season goes on.  He was a great addition for us to say the least.

  1. We are only a few weeks into the season, but who or what has stood out to you so far?  The Yeti and Knights are definitely in their own league.  As mentioned above, Jay has really stood out for us so far.  Josh Clontz is fitting in very well with the Eagles and I can’t wait to see how we match up with them.  The Bear Claw are no pushover either.  Hopefully the next half of the season will provide some more exciting games with the schedule slated the way it is.

  1. It's been a rough time to be a Pittsburgh sports fan.  Which Burgh team do you think will win the next championship?   We may have to move to Kansas City.  I think parades will be held there on an annual basis.   All I can say is that we are going to have a very long wait.  I will go with the Steelers but no championship will be happening anytime soon.

Cody Schuckers (Yeti)

1.   5-2 win over the colonials last night.  What can you say about the overall team effort in the win?

Great overall team effort from everyone. From start to finish we played hard and made plays offensively and defensively.

2.    You had a couple goals to start out the game.  How important do you think it is to get a lead in a game that’s expected to be pretty close?

Oh it’s so important gets some momentum your way and the overall team mood up early. When youre playing one of the best goalies in the league to be able to get a couple early is huge.

3.   Goals were hard to come by on both sides.  Is that the kind of game you expected going into it?

We knew going in it was gonna be a tough game it always is with that team.  No matter what the colonials always find a way to compete with anyone making games very high tempo and intensity.  Credit a lot to our defense and goaltending very early on and we seem to be very good in those areas. Had it not been for the always pesky tight colonial defense and great goaltending the score would have been a lot different with the offensive control and chances we had

4.   Whats it like playing alongside people like Zach Smith, Derik and Dave Jewell?

It’s very fun and refreshing playing with them and not against them that’s for sure. They all give 100 percent effort the entire time they’re on the court. It’s still early on we all even RJ Ben and Braxton all seem to have a lot of good chemistry together and all support in both zones. I look forward to seeing what we can do this season

5.   Got any predictions for the super bowl?

I’m not big on football but from what little I have seen I think you’ll see a 3peat but you never know either way I feel it’ll be a extremely good close fun game to watch
