Yeti 12 Hounds 1 (Complete team effort for the Yeti)
The yeti were missing Derik Day, RJ, and Cody in this game, but they were able to put together a good team effort in their ironman 12-1 win over the hounds last night. On paper, it appeared that it could be a competitive game considering the Hounds had Noah filling in and Corey Bassett in the lineup, but they weren’t able to get past Adam last night. They had some good opportunities turned down throughout the game. It was a good balance offensively for the yeti as each of their 4 skaters contributed goals in this game (RJ, Zach, Dave Jewell and Braxton). The yeti stretched an 8-1 lead after 2 periods to 12-1 in the later stages of the 3rd period. The Hounds will look to get in the win column when they play the walkers next week (it will be their first matchup against one another this season). The yeti will get their first matchup against the bear claw next week.
Colonials 10 Walkers 5 (Colonials pull away late)
The Colonials snapped a 2 game losing streak with a 10-5 win over the walkers last night. The win did not come easy, but they were able to slowly pull away in the 3rd period. The walkers were without Denny last night but snagged up Corey Bassett and he immediately made his presence felt with 2 goals early in the game to give the walkers an early 3-1 lead. Troy Gaydosh had their other early goal. The Walkers actually tried to get Corey Bassett on the roster before the season but his availability was too uncertain. Phil Mace was held scoreless against the Eagles last week but he saved a bunch of offense for last nights game against the walkers. Mace scored the first goal of the game and later set John Matchock up for another to close the colonial deficit to 3-2 after the first period. The colonials took the lead early in the 2nd period following goals from Bob and Phil Mace and would later stretch the lead to 6-3 after Bob set Brian up for a goal but Mark Chesley and the Walkers closed the gap to 6-4 after Tony Dodd denied some good colonial shot attempts that could have put the game out of reach at that point. Unfortunately for the walkers, they had another bad 3rd period in this game. Phil Mace continued to score goals while Bob kept setting Brian up to help the colonials put the game away. Steve Hetrick was able to sneak a nice shot past Clint to cut the colonial lead to 9-5 but the walkers would get no closer. Jay Edmiston was not present last night which opened up the door for John Matchock to skate out while Clint goalied his 3rd game for the colonials last night. The colonials play the knights next week. Who will Clint goalie for? The walkers were missing Denny but Corey Bassett filled in and did a nice job trying to fill Denny’s scoring role. As expected, this game was actually closer than the final score indicated. Clint ruined Tony Conforto’s birthday by denying him a shot that appeared to be going in the net. The game was tight at the time of the save.
Eagles 13 Bear Claw 2 (Complete team effort for Eagles)
This was a rematch from 2 weeks ago, but the Eagles spoiled Zach Foradori’s birthday celebration in this one. They jumped out to a 5-0 lead at the end of the first period and never looked back. Eric Llewellyn led the way offensively in the first period by scoring a couple goals and setting Austin Boyd up for another. It was a very well rounded team effort for the Eagles in this one. Josh Clontz did not go off as much as he has in earlier games this season, but he was able to put a couple more goals up in this game along with a nice pass along the way. The team had a lot of good passing in this game and look to be set for the 2nd half of the season when they get Zac Gray back and get to see where they stand when the knights and yeti go up against them. The Bear Claw had a chance to win the last time these 2 teams met, but the outcome was never in doubt this time. Laken broke the shutout in the 2nd period to close their deficit to 8-1 after a nice pass from Vinnie. Zach Foradori set Peach up for a 3rd period goal but the deficit was too much to overcome by then. They were missing their leading scorer (Anthony) in this one.
The Eagles get a bye next week before going up against the Knights in a couple weeks. The Bear Claw get their first matchup against the Yeti next week.
Tony Conforto (Walkers)
1. 10-5 loss to the colonials last night. What can you say about the overall team effort in the loss? We played the best two periods of the season and everyone felt as if we were going to hang on and had a chance to get the w. Tony made some great saves and kept positive, the team in general seemed to skate faster and make more offensive plays than previous games, communication was better on the rink, and we played two periods with decent defense
2. The game got away in the 3rd period. What do you think went wrong in the 2nd and 3rd period? We lost momentum and started taking risks in order to catch back up but Clint and the defense found their stride in the third.
3. Corey took Denny’s place last night. Do you miss having him on a regular basis this season? Corey’s speed and ability to come out on top during a broken play is definitely an asset that we miss.
4. You guys had no answer for Phil Mace last night. How did you let a blind man score so many goals? (he says he has trouble seeing) Phil has a great shot, he puts enough power on his shot to make it hard to defend against.
5. What positives can you take out of the game? We are playing with more cohesiveness and communicating more…. The wins will come in due time!
Laken Dodd (Bear Claw)
1. 13-2 loss to the Eagles last night. What can you say about the overall team effort in the loss? Everyone played as hard as we could, we just kinda gave up after the first it seemed.
2. What positives can you take out of the loss? At least we still got a few goals and it wasn’t a complete blowout.
3. Are you excited to be on the USA Hockey team? It’s exciting to be on the USA team for roller derby, been working towards that team almost my whole career in derby.
4. At what age did you start playing hockey and do you watch professional hockey at all? I probably started whenever I was around 5 or 6 for hockey, i sometimes watch professional hockey when I have time.
5. Aside from hockey, what else do you like to do in your free time? Between my busy derby and work schedules, I ride horses and do a few shows over the summer.
Ben Rossi (Yeti---- And Swift’s biggest fan)
1. 12-1 win over the hounds last night. What can you say about the overall team effort in the win? great team effort, good ball movement, love playing for the yeti.
2. You are playing some good hockey right now. Are you playing with a lot of confidence? . Yes, drama free team with guys who know how to play hockey. Puts you at ease out there when you got teammates who support you and don't bitch and whine.
3. Ironman last night. How were you feeling following the game? . Tired..... Really tired
4. Its no secret that you have overcome a lot in the last couple years. Is it nice to be back on the court playing hockey again? Hockey keeps me busy... Being busy doing something healthy is good.
5. No championship for the Swifties. Were you surprised at how easily the eagles won that game? Thank God I can't stand mahomes and kelcie and all the bullshit with tswift.... Very surprised I thought it would be close, but the eagles crushed it!
