Schedule for Monday, December 2nd:

Red vs Sky Blue at 620

Black vs Gray at 720

Yellow vs Orange at 820

Gray 8  Yellow 7

If these 2 teams play again in the playoffs, we could be in for an entertaining game (less some of the drama).  For the 2nd time this season, these two teams went back and forth with gray pulling out another one goal win. Gray won the first game in overtime and this game nearly went to overtime as well, but Tony Dodd made a couple good saves at the end to preserve the win for team gray.  Ben Rossi earned a hatrick less than 4 minutes into the game to give Yellow a 3 goal lead to start the game with team gray having to recruit a ref (Rob Reed) to play for them as they were waiting for Steve Hetrick to arrive.  Cory Schuckers and Trenton Bembenic were not present for them last night.  Yellow was playing without Brice Miller or Tony Benanti.   Team Gray eventually woke up and scored the next 4 goals (Bob and Zach split the 4) and had some good passing to one another in the process.   Braxton McKinley scored a goal for yellow to tie the game at 4.  Midway thru the 2nd period, Bob Anderson set Brian Anderson up to give gray a 1 goal lead but yellow would tie it again on another Ben Rossi goal.  In the 3rd period, Brian Anderson found Zach Smith open in front of the net to put gray ahead 6-5, but Larry scored for yellow to tie the game once again.  Gray (Bob) would score shortly after Larry’s goal to go up 7-6 and added a much needed insurance goal when Bob set Brian up for a 2nd time in the game to give Gray an 8-6 lead.  Yellow didn’t go away quietly by scoring another goal and almost scoring a tying goal, but they were unable to get one by Tony Dodd at the end.  Yellow will play orange for a 3rd time this season next week while gray will get black for a 3rd time this season next week.  Yellow and Orange went to a shootout to start out the fall league season.  Gray won 2 close games over black this season but black did not have Phil Pompeii for either of those games.

Orange 5  Sky Blue 3

One name sums it all up ------------ Clint.

With the top seed on the line, Clint had another one of those nights.  Sky Blue had a lot of good scoring opportunities turned down and did not score until Cody found a way to get a shot past Clint about 5 minutes into the 3rd period.  Unfortunately for blue, the damage was already done by then.   The goal closed the gap to 4-1 and they got to within 4-2 on a goal from Tyler Stitt but that’s as close as they would get.   John Matchock actually got to skate out for Orange last night and made a nice pass to Alex Waddell to give Orange their 5th and final goal of the night.  Tyler Waltman would score for blue late in the 3rd period but that’s as close as they would get.  Jason Stamler scored the first of his 2 goals to give Orange a 1-0 lead in the first period.  He continues to own the first period of games this season and its looking like he has regained his form from back in the earlier XHL years in Brockway.  Joe Roush was a little late arriving to the game but made his presence known with a big 2nd period goal to give orange a 2-0 lead and Zach Foradori would later score to make it 3-0.    Foradori was filling in for a missing Zac Gray.    Winning seems to follow him no matter what team he fills in for (he will be Jeff Wehner’s replacement on Noah’s team when the playoffs begin).  Jerred Amick is recovering from a hockey trip to Detroit this weekend as he elected to let Jake Kline fill in for him last night.  Cody Schuckers was present but he picked the wrong night to come after opposing Clint shut Blue out for over 30 minutes.  Jerred Amick’s team lost a championship game in Detroit with 16 seconds to go in regulation.  Orange earned the top seed by virtue of tiebreaker and will get to play the 6 seed next week and the 5 seed the following week to open up the playoffs.  Sky Blue will play against Red next week.  It appears that Red is finding a little groove going into the playoffs, see below for their game against Black last night:

Red 6  Black 3

Noah Kline had some bad luck in the draft when he drafted Jeff Wehner (he did not show up for any games this season) but his team seems to be finding a groove going into the playoffs.    They gave Gray everything they could handle last week and controlled last nights game against black from start to finish.  Noah scored 3 times in the game and had a real nice set up to Morgan Lyons in the first period to give red a 2-0 lead.  Noah would later assist Zach Foradori for a goal in the 3rd period to keep red in front.  Foradori was filling in for Jeff.  As noted above, winning seems to follow him everywhere.  Steve Pompeii was not present last night but Jeremy Johnson was available to play for red last night.    Troy Gaydosh continues to contribute goals for red as he had a 2nd period break away to keep them in front.  Andy scored twice for black and Josh Clontz set Laken up for a nice goal for black but they trailed from start to finish.  The two teams tied in the standings and split their 2 regular season matchups.  By Virtue of tiebreaker, Black got the 4th seed  by having a -5 point differential to Red having a -7 point differential.  Red will play sky blue next week while black will go up against gray.

Announcement ------- We are going to try to put an ironman tournament together at the rink on Saturday, February 22nd (depending on the amount of interest we get).  Laken Dodd will have some expenses coming up with her team USA roller derby adventures.  We are going to try to raise enough money so she can get on an airplane instead of having to use her roller blades to get across the country.

Message me if you are interested in playing or helping out with the tournament.  We are also having a Christmas/New Years Tournament on Monday evening, December 30th.  Message me if you are interested in that one as well.

***Got a short week at work this week and have lots of work to get done by tomorrow, so we will try to get back to the postgame interviews when the double elimination playoffs begin next week.***
