7.          Hounds 0 (18-68)

Knights 13  Walkers 7

There are no points awarded in the standings for moral victories, but the Walkers have to feel much better about their team after last nights loss to the knights.  They were mercy ruled on 2 different occasions to start out the season including an unexpected one against the Bear Claw on opening night, but they played their best game of the season last night against one of the league’s top teams.    The game was even at 4 going into the 3rd period but the knights took advantage of some walker defensive lapses in the final 15 minutes.  Clint had a little bit off an off night in net, maybe he was trying to save some energy for his colonial fill in role against the eagles last night.  Believe it or not, Noah did not score last night and did not feel good about his play following the game, but the good news for him is that there are plenty of other good options to pick up the slack on an off night.  It was a pretty balanced scoring attack for the knights with Andy and Brandon leading the way but also got goals from Cory, Nate Galentine, Jay Stamler and Jake Kline.    The walkers weren’t quite as balanced goal scoring wise with Denny and Troy Gaydosh scoring all the goals.  A couple of those goals came on nice passes from Tony Conforto.  While giving up 13 goals, Tony Dodd kept busy in this game and made his share of good saves to keep the walkers in the game during the first 2 periods.  Unfortunately for Dodd and the walkers, things got away in the 3rd period.  Despite the loss, they have to feel optimistic about their team going into the next half of the season.  They have had the yeti, eagles and knights to contend with to start out the season which could prepare them well for the next part of the season.  For the knights, they remain unbeaten and we know Noah will get back on track.  He was not able to play against the hounds last week due to an injury.  The knights wont play again until February 17th against the Colonials.  The walkers will go up against the colonials next week at 720.

Bear Claw 13  Hounds 4

We don’t know what was more impressive, the way the bear claw played last night or the way they dressed?  Zach Foradori didn’t take any credit for the fancy shirts, but he will be taking credit for his 10 point performance last night (6 goals and 4 assists).  Were his former eagle teammates watching?   On paper, this looked to be a pretty good matchup especially after the Bear Claw were forced to play ironman, but the Hounds got off to another slow start that was too much to overcome.  They had a full lineup with Corey Bassett in the lineup but the Bear Claw got out to a quick 4-0 lead and never looked back.   When the Hounds had chances, Kaden Coulter was there to make some really good saves.  He played a big part in the Bear Claw win last night.  They also got some early scoring from Laken, Brice and Anthony but it was mainly Zach Foradori as the game went on, between passing and scoring goals of his own.  Brice Miller had to quit playing offense after a while to save some energy considering there wasn’t a sub waiting to come in for him.  Regardless, Foradori was impressed with Miller’s defensive effort as the game went on.  The Hounds didn’t score until midway through the 2nd period when Corey Bassett cleaned up a shot from Cody Haag to close the gap to 8-1.  They also got goals from Cody Haag, Andrew Britton and Tyler Waltman but they were never able to climb back into the game after the slow start.  As mentioned above, Kaden Coulter played a solid game in net for the bear claw.  They will hope to get some more bodies for their rematch against the Eagles next week.  Zach Foradori probably has this game circled on his calendar.  The Hounds will look to bounce back against the Yeti next week.  It sounds like they could have Corey Bassett in the lineup for a decent amount of games.

Eagles 5  Colonials 4

The Colonials overcame a 2 goal deficit in the 2nd period and another 2 goal deficit in the 3rd period, but in the end, they lost on a tic tac toe sequence (Clontz/Amick/Llewellyn) with 5 seconds left to play.  With the game tied at 4 late in the 3rd period, the colonials played an aggressive approach to try to get the winning goal, but a shot that hit off the post (Mace) ended up finding its way to an eagles player which gave them an eventual 3 on 1 break away and the rest is history.   Eric Llewellyn scored the only goal in the 1st period but the lead was stretched to 2-0 when Jerred Amick snuck one by Clint (filling in for the colonials again).  This was Amick’s first game for the Eagles this season and it looks like he is fresh and ready for what could be an expanded role on his team especially with Cody playing on the yeti this season and Zac Gray still healing from an injury.  The colonials got two 2nd period goals from Brian Anderson to even the score at 2 but Jerred Amick helped give the eagles the lead again late in the 2nd period when he set Austin Boyd up in front of the net for a 3-2 lead going into the 3rd period.    The Eagles got a much needed insurance goal from Jerred Amick in the 3rd period to go up 4-2 but Jay Edmiston scored back to back goals for the colonials to tie the game up at 4 late in the 3rd period.  Both goalies (Henry and Clint) played very well for their respective teams in this game and faced their share of shots throughout the game.  In the end, the colonials got caught deep in their own end which led to the Eric Llewellyn’s game winner for the Eagles with 5 seconds left.  The Colonials were playing with a thin lineup once again without John Matchock in net and without Rooster.  Matchock said he should be available from this point forward but there is still no answer for Rooster.  The Eagles are still waiting to get Zac Gray in the lineup but continue to win without him.  They will get another game against the Bear Claw next week.  Would you rather have Josh Clontz or Zach Foradori?    The Colonials will look to bounce back against the Walkers next week.

Clint  (Knights and Colonials again last night)

1. 2 games of hockey last night and 2 games last week. How do you think you did in each game? I felt terrible in the first game...not on my angles and I just wasn't tracking the ball well! Much better in the 2nd though! Couple bad bounces but u can't control that sometimes!

2. Walkers have one of their better rosters this year, if not, their best roster. What was your impression of them last night? They definitely do! Adding guys like Denny and Troy really help with their breakout and creating offensive opportunities!

3. You got a taste of the eagles last night. What was your impression of them? What I was expecting! They try to control the game and not give up odd man's going the other way! Definitely always a well rounded team! I'll b excited to face them again!

4. What have you observed of the colonials after goalying for them these last 2 weeks? Their always gonna have a chance having Bob on the team! He's such a well balanced player that can either play shutdown D or push into the offensive zone! Speed is definitely something they lack! But they make up for it by playing that box D and creating chances off of turnovers!

5. Is this the year for the Eagles to beat the chiefs? Haha I sure do hope so....the NFL is really starting to go downhill with their officiating and it's getting boring watching the same teams win every year! U won't hear me say this any other time but....FLY EAGLES FLY!!!!

Troy Gaydosh (Walkers)

1. Hard fought loss to the knights last night. What can you say about the overall team effort? Team effort was great and consistent throughout. I remember last year getting mercy-ruled 15-3, so we gave them somewhat of a challenge.

2. The game was tight up until the 3rd period. What do you think went wrong? . Defensive breakdowns over time. I was pretty gassed in the 3rd, but just glad we were competitive.

3. The knights are favored to compete in the championship this season. What was your impression after playing them last night?  They're definitely the favorite, but not impossible to beat. It is exciting to play at a high level like that.

 4. No wins yet, but what positives can you take out of last nights game and the other games so far this season?   It'll come at some point. Denny and I are a pretty good pair that combined for 7 last night, so with that effort we should be able to get a win against other teams.

 5. Is this the year for the Eagles to beat the Chiefs? God I hope so. As much as I despise Philadelphia sports fans, I'm rooting for Saquon and Hurts.

Zach Foradori (Bear Claw)

1. 13-4 win over the Hounds last night. What can you say about the overall team effort in the win last night? Everyone else’s efforts were good. Mine not so much, but luckily for me hockey just comes so naturally to me and I’m always just so dominant when I play it. I just couldn’t get into the game without our little brown cheerleader there rooting us on. Shows up one time and now I have no motivation to play without them there.

2. 10 points for you in this game. What message do you want to send to some of those eagles players who seem to think they are better off with Clontz on their roster? See, I told you guys anyone can stat pad against teams every once in a while. Even on a team that I play for. I just feel like I’m better and cooler than Clontz. This hockey thing is just too easy.

3. Who came up with those fancy bear claw shirts? Not gonna lie, I have no idea. I’m assuming Anthony did.

4. Kaden seemed to be in a good groove last night. What have you observed from him so far this season? He’s been playing good, sometimes he gets off his angles a little bit and that’s when he starts to struggle but he’s really started to figure it out back there. It helps when Brice is playing lock down defense in front of him because he was so tired 5 minutes into the game he had to stand back there.

5. Is this the year for the Eagles to beat the Chiefs?  On paper they should win. But everyone knows the Chiefs are going to get the 3-peat and Mahomes is going to “solidify his name in the goat conversation” just like I’m the goat for these interviews. Then Kelce and Tay Tay are gonna get engaged on the field afterwards and he’s going to ride off into the sunset with people saying he’s the greatest tight end ever

Cody Haag (Hounds)

1. 13-4 loss to the Bear Claw last night. What can you say about the overall team effort in the loss? Effort was there in the loss. The effort has been there for every game just need to put it together a little more.

2. They got ahead early and never looked back. What do you think went wrong at the beginning of the game for you guys?   That first goal is a tough one to let in. I think that kind of set the tone for the game and we never really recovered.

 3. What positives can you take out of the game and what was your impression of the bear claw? . Lots of positives we made good passes and had some chances. We do good things out there we just miss the opportunities that other players do not and it will just take time and to keep playing. Bear Claw has a good team they are able to make good plays and make it look easy

4. Bubba has had some good moments but some tough stretches as well. What have you observed from him along with Kaden who has also gone through some tough stretches but is continuing to get better now?  Bubba just needs to find some consistency and he will be alright just needs to keep showing up and playing. Kaden seems to have improved a lot and played very well last night.

 5. Is this the year for the Eagles to beat the Chiefs?   No, Chiefs 34 Eagles 27

Bob Anderson (Colonials)

1. 5 to 4 loss to the eagles last night. What can you say about the overall team effort in the loss? I can’t fault the effort. We played a good team and lost on a goal scored with 5 ticks on the clock. They definitely had the upper hand in the first half of that game but I thought we pushed back well in the second half.

2. How do you think Clint has done these last 2 weeks filling in? Clint is rock solid and kept us in both of those games. He probably kept the scores a lot closer than they deserved to be. The young goalies should take note of Clint’s journey to this point. He struggled when he first started. But he’s hung in there, learned from those experiences, and has become one of the league’s best at his position.

3. What do you think went wrong on that final goal for the eagles? I don’t know for sure. I looked up and saw a 3 on 1 coming. I think we probably pushed a bit too aggressively to get the game winning goal at the end. Either way, I didn’t do a good job taking the pass away defensively. Amick made a beautiful sauce pass and Llew was there for a gimme. I didn’t give Clink a chance.

4. What signs of encouragement have you seen in these last 2 losses? We are resilient. We didn’t let either game get away from us when we fell behind. We battled back and made them both competitive. I think we’re all finding our roles. If anything, we’re just one defenseman short.

5. Is this the year for the eagles to beat the chiefs? I think so, but I’ve been underselling KC almost all season. The Eagles have the better roster in my opinion. But the Chiefs have two decided advantages: the better QB and the better coach. Nonetheless, my heart says Eagles 24, Chiefs 23 in a thriller.

Jerred Amick (Eagles)

1. Back at the rink last night following an injury back in November. How are you feeling after all the hockey over the weekend and the hockey last night? I had an injury back in 2016 that forced me to sit out for almost two months and I remember it taking almost 3 additional months before I got into the grove again. This time, I’ve overcompensated and have been working out more now than I ever have in my life and I can say my legs are the strongest they’ve ever been, so I’m expecting myself to play some of my best hockey this coming year. I hope to be a key player to grove city thunderbirds’ success this year in MIHA

2. You were a big contributor in last nights win. Now that Cody isn’t on the team, do you think you will have a little bit of an expanded role with this particular group? I don’t really have to change my game very much as he was only on the team half the time so when he did show up, I was forced to play defense. Now I can play offense all the time!

3. Take us through that final play that led to Llew’s game winning goal? Clontz was hanging out in the offensive zone, ready to do his thing, when he got a pass and the dman was on him quick so he threw it over to me. Once I received it, I remember taking a breath and saying to myself to calm down and let the play develop before making a decision. Fred made a good D play and basically forced me to sauce it through the crease to Eric who was the third man in who wouldn’t have showed up in time if I didn’t slow it down. Clint was already committed to me shooting.

4. You guys never trailed but they kept coming back. What does a win like last night do for your confidence going into the rest of the season? I think it has more to do with us attempting to find our chemistry, with my return it changes the whole team, and it will certainly will again when Zac Gray returns. It’s going to be a learning curve for a while and I think we all understand this and know the path will rocky.

5. Foradori had 10 points in last nights game. Do you guys miss him at all or are you still fine with having Clontz in his place? Zach Foradori… I love that fat slob. I’m a big fan of his sensical two cent comments that always piss people off. Im glad he’s doing something other than sitting at his PlayStation every night eating Doritos and drinking beer. I also think Clontz is extremely underrated and doesn’t get enough credit and I’m glad he’s found a home with the eagles.
